Come and learn about fitness and nutrition basics as well as strategies specifically for parents with limited time and motivation to workout. This class will cover the foundational components of fitness such as strength training, general anatomy and body mechanics, effective cardiovascular training, flexibility and injury prevention as well as nutrition and understanding your metabolism. It will also include an overview of efficient exercises that can be done at home or at a gym. If you ever wanted a fitness professional to simply demystify ‘getting in shape’ for you, this is the class to take! This class is appropriate for all levels and abilities and will include some hands on instruction of exercises. So please come in comfortable workout clothing.
This class is taught by Liz Colenzo, one of our DPNS 3-Day parents. Liz has been a trainer, sports coach and fitness instructor since 2000. She is an AFAA/NASM Certified Personal Trainer and also teaches strength and conditioning, spin, aqua, barre, yoga, Pilates and various styles of sports and dance fitness. She has also taught children’s dance and fitness and is currently part of the professional coaching staff for Five Starz Volleyball Club. In addition, Liz is the owner and director of Strength Training 101 at Get Fit Davis and is affiliated with numerous other gyms in Davis and Woodland. As a trainer, she specializes in empowering people to become their own trainers and create lifelong healthy habits. Thursday, February 7, 7 pm @ 8 th Street: Positive Discipline
Melody Fananapazir will be presenting the topic of Positive Discipline. Melody is a certified Positive Discipline speaker. This theory is based on the book by Dr. Jane Nelsen. The program "teaches the important of social and life skills in a manner that is deeply respectful and encouraging for both children and adults. Parenting with Positive Discipline means being kind and firm at the same time, which is effective long-term and helps children feel a connection — a sense of belonging and significance".
